Reality vs Illusion

The Three Boats

If this world is an ocean, we have three types of Boats to sail:-

 A) Materialism, which includes but is not limited to the financial pursuit, a world of advertisement, carnal desires, material needs, the struggle of survival, body-consciousness, and emotions associated with them.

B) Spiritualism, a seeker's journey who wants to look beyond the temporal world to realize godliness and the ultimate truth. He wants to get himself to a place of serenity where all chaos is gone, no passion fires or desire inspires, where everything is bliss and joy. A journey that takes him within himself to realize his true nature and truth.

C) The third Boat is a mixture of these two boats or aspects of life. People on this Boat may find themselves torn apart between the material and the spiritual consciousness, swaying from one side to another. Many people die in this Boat sailing towards the end of their lives.

 Let's discuss them in detail.

Boat -A

In this world of advertisement and entertainment, many people have been duped by the flavors of materialism. They have forgotten to look beyond the horizon of material progress. When they fail to convert their perception of Success into an experience of reality, they begin to identify themselves with failure. This further leads to suicide, anxiety, or depression. To me, Success is just a perception or, say, a series of thoughts that people align with their identity to give their life meaning. A materialist always builds his identity around material possession, body-consciousness, and prestigious position in society.
On the contrary, a spiritualist may have many similarities with a materialist, but they differ at the level of perception, which shapes their identity. For example, he might have material possession and fame, but he chooses to live detached because he understands the corporeal nature of things. He knows that stability in life comes from within, not from achieving and collecting more from the world.
People have come to this understanding after they witnessed the helplessness against coronavirus. What people consider material Success is very fluctuating in nature. People are losing their jobs, their title, and even their lives. What are they running for? Where do they want to reach is a question worth contemplating.

 Boat -B

People sailing in this Boat are seekers and believers. They find the passions of desire empty and try to live a fulfilled life. This fulfillment is a thirst that forces them to seek the ultimate truth. To me, Spirituality is a revolution for freedom from the identity that we have created for ourselves. Mainly, spiritual seekers intend to identify themselves with spirit, but it takes complete realization for transformation. What we know is our potential; what we do is our reality. Therefore, spiritual seekers follow meditation as a tool to completely align with the reality of their spiritual form by raising their consciousness on a higher plane of existence.

Many people associate Spirituality with renunciation, but conversely, materialists are true renunciates who leave the spiritual path for perishable things and desires. Sailing towards their old age, their passions fade, and they become cognizant of the ghosts they were chasing while the time like sand slinks away from their grasp. It does not mean that Spirituality is entirely opposite to the notions of materialism. It is only a matter of perception. For example, one may spend money on the instruments of desires, and the other may spend it on society's welfare. Tools remain the same, but the means differ.

 Boat -C

People who row the third Boat belong to both material and spiritual aspects of life. Such people can be categorized into two groups. (i) People who have not been able to unite with either Materialism or Spirituality and; (ii) Those who have attained equilibrium between them. The first group of people finds themselves stuck between the continuous tussle between Spirituality and materialism. They seek contentment but are not strong enough to go beyond the attractions of life. This struggle drains them from inside, and they lose all joy from life. The second group of people understands the material needs and knit them together with spiritual consciousness to build a soft bed of contentment on which they can lie down happily. This bed is perfect for people who are married, who have responsibilities and duties towards their families. These are the people who bring stability not only in their life but also to society.

The people sailing in Boat-B have changed the world, inspiring the souls drowned in darkness to the kindled wisdom of their spirit.

The people sailing in Boat-A become the example to learn from for the wise men seeking the truth; they settle either in Boat-B or become a part of Boat-C.

Have a fantastic day, readers.  Stay tuned!
